If
you've studied with Bekki and Crow, you're familiar with the
mugwort-based journeying formula given to Crow by his Etruscan
ancestress. Crow also was instructed to smoke mugwort as part of his
work with the Sheep Goddess
Crow's
herbal awareness stems from several sources: years as a gardener,
research in the ethnographic literature about entheogenic substances in
tribal shamanism, extensive training in contemporary medicinal
herbalism,
and numerous journeys and ceremonies with various plant spirits. (See
the book Rooted in the Heart,
Seeded in the Soul and also the workshop,
same title.) This background helped him ground the guidance he recieved
from Spirit for using and teaching about mugwort and friends.
Crow
has pursued an avid interest in the use of entheogenic
plants in traditional shamanic practice, reading and absorbing every
article and book that came his way, amassing a modest library on the
topic and conversing with knowledgeable contacts for many years.
Yet he was not
drawn to regular use of any substances nor even to much experimentation
with them.
Surprising,
then, that Spirit fairly forcefully put in Crow's way instructions not
to experiment with, but to use regularly the herb Mugwort (Artemesia
vulgaris). Mugwort is widespread in
Asia, Europe and the US, having ancient healing applications as a
medicinal, and as an herb to enhance dream states. Following
on this instruction, which he followed, the Mugwort Plant Spirit also
instructed him to teach about his study and experiences related to
Mugwort and other entheogens.
This
workshop begins with segments from the Millennium video series (David
Mayberry Lewis, Cultural Survival),
involves focused discussion of plant use by shamans, moves into
journeys with your allies and plant spirit connections, and includes
experience making various mugwort formulae for your own use.
